Documents module missing import feature

Preliminary it is assumed (by design here) that every document shall be in the form of file (attachment), however not really :-) Lot of documents (not only in my case, but also all over the business what using EDI interfaces) are in pure text mode as they dont needs attachment but text strings only. As per above it seems like missing import function would be welcomed across users? Any easy way to fix it?
