This may not fix the issue, but it is a test to see if it does.
After investigating the current state of zine, I was able to get it to work with 0.13.0. This is the start of the changes to update to 0.13.0.
As best I can tell, ld isn't actually support in most markdown grammars. So for now I've elected to use the cpp option.

This may not fix the issue, but looking through the code published it is the best I could find.
