Curious if you all as the builders still agree with the warning provided on Raspiblitz specifically mentioning that clboss is not meant for running a profitable routing node. Have more recent versions become more and more economical or even potentially profitable? I'm not looking to make a killing, but very enticing to be able to automate most of the management if able to break even or rake in a few sats every now and then.

@nomo-nomad apologies for the delayed response

We (the VLS project) use CLBOSS to stimulate activity on nodes which allows us to test, develop, benchmark, etc the connected VLS signer. It's been really helpful. But we aren't generally concerned w/ profitability so I hesitate to make a recommendation. I think it's easily better than a poorly maintained node however.

There have also been some recent issues (#189) which prevented it from working well after the CLN v24.02 release. I do think we've found the major problem and are close to restoring functionality with #190

Have you found other alternatives in the meantime? Always interested in hearing what other things are working out ...

I don't think CLBOSS will be profitable for a while, unless a lot more developer resources are devoted to it.

It's possible that if you just gave CLBOSS a ton of capital, it could actually start routing a lot more payments than my tiny node does. But I'm not aware of anyone who has tried this.

I have lots of ideas for how to make it lose less money, but right now it will lose a few dollars a month on swaps, and there's not much you can do about this. However, if you want a super reliable node for sending and receiving payments, there is no second best.
