Proposal for new header/tagline refresh #106

while this is a definite improvement, you got me thinking with a comment in discord:
and since then i think we should work towards omitting the description completely with sentences like
also maybe:
*where i want to be a bit conservative. i don't like to give too much hope to a newcomer. ringCT technology is much more private and so maybe we shouldn't overdo it and call or sell ourselves as completely untraceable (which we currently still do under "features"). but for that we can of course highlight the error robustness compared to ringCT, since we can't get an undetected inflation bug. |
Thanks for joining in this discussion. I am glad you agree on this point about mobile-friendliness.. It is not wrong but it is not our #1 strength either. Few coins exist naturally like AEON. That's why I would love to capture the fairness and openness of AEON. I don't consider privacy to be something worth sharing nor a major feature. This is because if a currency is not private it is simply a failure. Privacy is just a basic expectation. When anyone uses a currency they will assume it to be private and are probably deeply alarmed when they find out that it is not. Even most people who use bitcoin probably believe it to be private and do not realize that it is not. Thats like saying "My bicycle is special because it has two pedals for both my feet" Why would a bicycle not have two pedals? Similarly, "Why would a currency not be private?" ... Do you have thoughts on this? The remaining points are all agreeable to me
these matters speak for themselves and do not need pointing out. Also I think that has less to do with what AEON (the decentralized digital currency) is and more about "Aeonix" ( a software application ) developing the client to connect to the AEON network. It is important to distinguish that we do not develop AEON.. aeonix is only creating a "browser" for us to connect and send transactions. AEON is already out there in the wild and will be operating without any of us. And there could be many ways to connect to AEON though we only have one "aeonix" client from smooth/stoffu as of now. (I say aeonix because it is called aeon which is very confusing/misleading when discussing AEON the decentralized network and "aeon", a software application used to connect to AEON). |
maybe for both of us, but 99% of (top) cryptocurrencies (or better called: cryptocoins) are not private. so I think this is at least worth mentioning (and a selling point for like-minded people) that we care about privacy compared to bitcoin until remaining population realize that privacy matters (which may or may never happen). |
Then, I would rather say exactly that: "Popular cryptocurrencies are a failure". This is the real news here. Similar to how I phrased it above. "We will not surrender your basic rights" Kind of dramatic-- but who cares. Nobody wants to give something up such as financial privacy. When you use Bitcoin, you are giving up your privacy: "It is failing to protect your privacy." That is a very strong criticism and puts AEON in a very positive light. Instead of saying that AEON is private, we say what it is not doing: failing to protect privacy, or surrendering human rights of users. Do you like that approach? Anyways, what thoughts did you have about scrapping the up front sales-pitch approach and moving it off the landing zone alltogether to an about section. It comes off as desperate in my opinion. For example: |
I would perhaps not put it so dramatically but I agree that this is the message in terms of privacy.
maybe we were talking past each other, english is not my native language. I think it's good to use simple sales arguments as language on the landing page. |
Aeon: Private Digital Cash |
That is not very fun or attractive in my opinion. It is simple though and easy to understand. |
Hello all, I have carefully studied the current tagline and I don't think it is using the right language to convey the aeon message. I want to use this chance to discuss some possible improvements to its current structure. Please comment on your own opinion as well.
Current:
AEON
Decentralized digital currency is slowly becoming a normal part of everyday life. Yet everybody's main internet device continues to be their cellphone, a device with a low-powered CPU and limited available storage.A lightweight digital currency
AEON is about enabling this era, enabling an age where all people everywhere have the freedom to privately send and receive money with whatever gadget they already own.
Critique:
Some of the language here is a little awkward
A lightweight digital currency. "Lightweight" is a weak word and is not the primary message we want to express. Aeon is first and foremost a p2p opensource digital currency. What are some of the secondary things that make aeon unique are its lightweightness and privacy. Lets make sure that we also use more modern language such as "small footprint" a common expression in computing to express the same idea as lightweightness with a more positive connotation. It is also a hip expression as in reducing your "carbon footprint". People understand that.
slowly is negative word feels like a weakness
Beginning a sentence with Yet is awkward and confusing when the two sentences are expressing one idea, this is what semicolons are for.
cellphone is an outdated word use phone or smart phone
colons are used at the end of sentences to illustrate a point
After three weeks of deliberation, the jury finally reached a verdict: guilty. Five continents, three dozen countries, over a hundred cities: this was the trip of a lifetime.
The last part should becontinues to be their cellphone: a device with a low-powered CPU and limited available storage.
AEON is about enabling this era, enabling an age where
awkward comma pause and enabling is too close together doesn't need to be repeated. Also what do you mean
Aeon is about enabling this era
? Do you mean Aeon is enabling this era. Or does this mean that the name "Aeon" describes the new era.all people everywhere
awkward expressionYes we need to mention freedom and privacy, perhaps as separate points.
whatever gadget they already own
gadget is a quirkly invention, nobody would say a laptop is a gadget, it is a device.Suggested refresh:
AEON is...
a digital currency with a small footprint
and a big focus on private transactions.
Peer-to-peer, open-source digital currencies like Bitcoin are gradually becoming part of everyday life; yet few can run on everyone's primary internet device: their phone. Additionally, the most popular digital currencies are failing to protect their users' privacy, exposing their transactions and balances to the general public.
AEON unleashes this new decentralized era to billions of mobile devices. It is enabling an age where everyone has the freedom to send, receive, and store money on their go-to device without surrendering their fundamental rights to privacy.
