Use Case

The sidebar sometimes takes up more space than the UI within it needs

Solution

A <-> cursor appears when the user hovers over the right border of the sidebar, and the user can drag the border to resize the sidebar

Alternatives

  • Sidebar size could become context-dependent (e.g. if the metadata panel needs less room, we could give it less when it is active)
  • We could have a couple of fixed sidebar size options and design more/less compressed UI layouts for each
  • The entire UI could be "zoomable," analogous to ZEN's "workspace zoom" slider
