What

Feedback Explorer is meant to show the search term when the referrer is a GOV.UK search results page. But this is only working for referrers based on the older q= query parameter and not with keywords= parameter

Why is it an issue?

The search terms which lead to page visits are useful for publishers/performance analysts etc.

More info

Zendesk ticket which raised the issue https://govuk.zendesk.com/agent/tickets/5955756/

Example https://support.publishing.service.gov.uk/anonymous_feedback?document_type=&from=28+Oct+2024&organisation=&paths=5b1b459c66467528478b&to=28+Oct+2024

The referrer column shows “HS304” as a search team. The full referring URL is https://www.gov.uk/search/all?manual%5B%5D=%2Fhmrc-internal-manuals%2Fresidence-domicile-and-remittance-basis&q=HS304 which has a q= parameter because that's how searches from manuals still work.
Whereas in the row above that, the URL https://www.gov.uk/search/all?keywords=green+bin, green bin doesn't come through as the search term.

Relevant code could be at

params["q"].presence
