Dots "." in path break page

We have a project using next-intl with i18n routing. Our URL is structured as /product/[id]-APPENDED-NAME-FOR-SEO.

Where the -APPENDED-NAME-FOR-SEO is the name of the product. However, if this name contains a "." somewhere in between, the URL breaks (and it only happens using next-intl), returns 404 Not Found. We only take into consideration the [id] part to fetch the product.

At the moment we are sanitizing the name for this character, but is this expected behaviour, or should we open bug report?
