ava 4 package cleverness and parcel/webpack?

Hi Folks
On a long quest here to have unit tests for some js code I am writing in Rescript. a language that compiles to js.
The world of cjs/mjs in node seems like a really particular hell, and besides already using js for modules in the rest of our code, and a preference towards the future, and with imports not resolvable with @babel/regsiter, it seems im left to bundle our code for execution with ava.

I've seen this in both webpack and parceljs that they are unable to find the 'ava' package when bundling.
For contrast, if I import lodash it works fine

Is this something to do with exports trickery in your package.json or maybe type: module?

I have an example project I can provide pretty easily if you're extra curious.

ava 3.15.0 seems to work

ahh requires --target node on the parcel side.
