Options:

  • Custom sphere mesh consisting of two hemispheres to load two 8k×8k textures instead of one 16k×8k texture, which creates a spike in memory consumption when loading the texture resource.
  • Custom sphere mesh with a single mesh but two textures.
  • Custom sphere mesh with tiles, for example 16×8 tiles, which would allow for culling of invisible tiles and total texture size of 32k or even larger.
