Thank you for making the local_welcome plugin available to the Moodle community.
What is currently happening
Right now, the welcome email is sent at the time that the user registers on the website. This is confusing some of our new users because they actually receive the welcome email before the confirmation of registration email which contains the link they must click to enable their account.
What I think should happen
I would like to propose that there be a configuration option which sends the welcome email once the account has been enabled instead of at the time of creation.
Why we need this modification
There are several benefits. The most obvious is that there will be less confusion for users who will only receive one email until they become fully registered on the site when they have clicked the confirmation link. The second benefit is that the information contained in the welcome email is often only applicable to a fully registered user so the updated UX process would have a natural progression.
By just making this an option, folks who prefer to have the message delivered at account creation time would continue to be able to do so.
Looking forward to seeing this option appear in the next release of the local_welcome plugin if possible. Please feel free to ask if you have any questions.
Best regards,
Michael Milette
