Develop templates for functional modules to run experiments in freely moving animals (foraging, navigation, escape, single and multi-animal ID tracking and pose estimation using SLEAP or DLC, multi-camera calibration). The Aeon standardized modules can provide a solid starting point for this.

An important discussion is where and how to host these examples:

  • Increase visibility of any of these resources by displaying it prominently on the main website
  • Host under bonsai-rx.org or a different domain (e.g. bonsai.network or bonsai.dev)
  • Host as a website curated by bonsai-rx org and dedicated to neuro experiments vs host as a protocols.io style website where anybody can push examples
  • Worrying about moderation and quality control might be an issue
  • Design contribution workflow (potentially PR based to a GitHub pages website or abstracted via a web interface / form)
  • Decide where in the review continuum we might want to fall (verify page builds and no malicious content vs validate the whole workflow is reproducible and executable). We could discuss and follow up at Bonsai conference.
  • Another option is making a central index of other resources, rather than hosting the content itself.
  • Could be polished and curated but also lists of users with public repos of example workflows and projects.
  • Consider how these might tie in with the examples listed in the Bonsai Gallery:
    • it is currently a far too complicated and bureaucratic process to force people to create NuGet packages for each example;
    • maybe there are alternatives to this now with annotations and docs and copy-paste metadata conventions for NuGet dependencies;
    • how to index these examples as GitHub repos, e.g. we could have either centralized or distributed solutions.

Some examples I gave for what this could look like:

Just commenting to say I took note of this and added it to the list of discussion questions for the documentation session.
