How to add markdown.defaultRules.paragraph?

I've tried adding:

paragraph: markdown.defaultRules.paragraph,

to the list of rules, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything, despite a lot of tinkering. I've been able to add other rules in from markdown.defaultRules, but not this one. Any idea how to get it working?

It seems to be related to setting the default state with inline: true. Any idea what the motivation or rationale was for that? Any reason why I shouldn't change that to false? It seems like it might be important since it's also configured that way in the parser export.

Discord itself uses inline parsing, so paragraphs don't work. Without inline you'd need two lines for a break.
