The extract function is still missing. It's a work-in-progress.
In theory, you could use tar to extract a TOCTAR archive as a workaround. Don't forget to skip or remove the hidden index file. The drawback is that you lose the checksum verification. So if some files have been damaged (but no header), tar will be happy to extract them without being able to tell you that file 23 of 238534 is corrupt.
Until I have implemented the extract function, you can use the verify function to make sure the files on the tape are still correct (as they were when the archive was created).
