Hi Peter! I'm taking a break from this currently. Too much stress in my life right now. Number one should already work. Is the Dutch language missing? I think I hardcoded some languages that GPT suggested. I can add more languages easily. Ultimately it would be best to query the source for the language, but that would break the encode by folder. I guess I'll just add languages for now. Look out for this later today. Let me think about how end stage would work. That might be easy to implement. I think 2D is out of scope, but I'll look. Maybe it would be easy to skip the FRIM and Spatial steps. I also need to change the MakeMKV profile. |

Hi,
Sorry to hear you have too much stress (contrary to me: I’m retired…). I
should prefer to select only Dutch subtitles and Original language in
highest audio format, to avoid a lot of unnecessary audio and subtitles in
final movie.
The end-stage would help to inspect the in-between results, but I admit, it
may be not used very often.
The 2D conversion with upscaling will help more people I think (the 3D
blu-Ray’s are sadly very limited available)
Greetings, Peter

… Thank you for your efforts till now, I am impressed by the results in AVP.
I have 3 feature requests:
1. Selection of subtitles and languages (I'm Dutch and see most movies
in original spoken language and Dutch subtitles).
2. Not only selection of start-phase but also selection of end-phase
(for experimenting with different MakeMKV extractions; I have troubles with
subtitles e.g. Avatar 3D)
3. Conversion of 2D Blu-Ray. Possibly out-of-scope but the quality of
the 3D with upscaling is so impressive, that I love to convert my whole
blu-ray library.
Thank you
Peter

Hi
It took me some time for discovering the pre-release 0.2.139 (I'm a newbee,
sorry). I started stage 1 with Avatar 3D blu ray, but it ends with errors
in stage 2, see console output below. Stage 1 ends also with errors, but
that is also the case in release 0.2.137. I hit "yes" to continue. Below a
print-screen.
Do you need more information to solve the issue?

Thank you for the tips. I am experimenting with Shutter Encoder and
Unsqueeze (for upscaling) apps. It's not successful yet (subtitels, right
video-codec) but I am only early in the learning curve...
Playing the ripped MKV directly in VLC or Moonlight gives an
unsatisfactory result: I'm spoiled with the crisp clarity of the 3D movies
(with upscaling) from your tooling :-)

You were right: the extracted mkv-file doesn't contain audio. At this
moment stage 2 is running on the avatar mvk file I ripped earlier manually
with MakeMKV (I checked and audio and subtitles are present). I will inform
you the results.

The run ends now after stage 7 with errors, see below. I’m now trying to manually run stage 8 with a new .srt file (I'm using in Windows Subtitle Edit and MKVcleaver to get a better .srt file. I think Avatar is a difficult movie with exotic subtitle presentation).

You were right: the extracted mkv-file doesn't contain audio. At this moment stage 2 is running on the avatar mvk file I ripped earlier manually with MakeMKV (I checked and audio and subtitles are present). I will inform you the results.

I have ran another 3D blu-ray from beginning and it fails too on extracting/converting subtitles:

I'm still struggling with subtitles without success (in version .137 there
are sometimes sync problems - subtitles lagging behind in the course of the
film; beta-version .139 doesn't work). I have played with Windows tool
BD3D2MK3D and it produces good quality full SBS MKV's (X265 HEVC) and has
the option to burn in subtitles. It plays well in e.g. Skybox on Vision
Pro. But I prefer your MV-HEVC approach, so my question is: is it possible
to add an option to burn in subtitles (in BD3D2MK3D it seems a rather
complicated job to generate full-3D subtitles from the extracted .sup
file)?

Hi
It took me some time for discovering the pre-release 0.2.139 (I'm a
newbee, sorry). I started stage 1 with Avatar 3D blu ray, but it ends with
errors in stage 2, see console output below. Stage 1 ends also with errors,
but that is also the case in release 0.2.137. I hit "yes" to continue.
Below a print-screen.
Do you need more information to solve the issue?

I am not able to work on this project right now :(. One suggestion I have is to use a player that supports external subs and download sub files in the same directory with the same name. I believe Screenlit will support it. Feel free to give that a try. The developer of that app is active and will hopefully fix any problems you may run into. Sorry! Subtitles are very complicated and also a personal thing and everyone seems to have different preferences on how they should be done. This leads to tons of complications trying to read even studio discs. |
