Sorting by relevance without search term makes no sense, maybe it would be better to have sort by “Date of publication (newest)” as default, and sort by “Relevance” as default only when a search term is entered.

I can see that there has been some discussions of this before it seems #163 with some issues #240 and then perhaps resolved with #289 . This is perhaps something that will be improved with the new code base upgrade
If no search term is entered, the default sort by “Relevance” tends to show irrelevant results, old datasets:
