Yes I am running an ancient system on really dated hardware. I am using quite a lot of appimages which is great.
I have had no luck with Kodi so fat:

zbyna@zbyna-MS-7681:~/Stažené > ./Kodi-18.8.git20200728.1313.glibc2.17-x86_64.AppImage

Thank you for any hint.
System is based on Linux Mint 17.3 with custom kernel and KDE:

OK.
After some error messages and adding some libraries to image it works 🙂 :

I had to add these libraries to the image:
- it is needed to keep order and some of them replaced those in image

Packed AppImage works well too:

zbyna@zbyna-MS-7681:~/Applications > ./Kodi-x86_64.AppImage
libEGL warning: DRI2: failed to authenticate
libva info: VA-API version 0.39.4
libva info: va_getDriverName() returns 0
libva info: Trying to open /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/nvidia_drv_video.so
libva info: va_openDriver() returns -1
zbyna@zbyna-MS-7681:~/Applications >

AppImage format is a great way how to use up-to-date applications even if in obsolete distribution not updatable because of old hardware. 👍 🍾
