Economica is an online economic framework for building out business models online.
It is also a Shopping Cart — however, we handle it a little differently. Instead of the 'Cart' metaphor being used in our model definitions, we use the word Quote. Every 'cart' in the Shopping Cart sense, is a Quote in preparation.
To preserve the expected user experience, however, we let you label a Quote whatever for you users, Carts, Baskets, Bags or any other collective noun you like.
We believe that the Shopping Cart metaphor, and that we place Products into a Cart, in which we Checkout — whilst serving as a neat UX device; has led us to program ourselves into a corner...
Economica adapts perfectly to the Enterprise with the Resource, Event, Agent model. Enterprise often consist of 1 to n Agents and each of those Agents may maintain a separate Store, create a Market (with Stores) or maintain a Store within a Market (MarketStore).
The Product base is instantiated upon an Agent's Store, pulling together Currency, Region and Lingual parameters. The Product base is serialised into a key/value store with an interchangeable Backend (Mongo/Redis/Memcached etc.) and consumed by an application environement of choice, such as Angular or Meteor.
The Client Application interacts with the Economica API to carry out Economic Patterns such as Sales Purchases, Sales Orders or Recurring Subscriptions.
The Client Application can implement its own Cart logic, however, the Economica API also implements Cart.
