Some broader consideration for improvements are:

ensuring full V9 compatibility, plus removing legacy dependancies
creating product 'types', where different sets of attributes can be assigned
product specific searching
expanding manufacturers to handle attributes
order history for customers
booking/calendar related products
gift card/credit handling
improving product reports and exports
