PY4E Book | Modern Filipino-English (Taglish) Translation #443
Comments
The instructions for doing a translation are here: https://github.com/csev/py4e/blob/master/TRANSLATION.md The best way to translate is to fork a copy of the git repo and translate the markdown and figures from there. But if setting all that up is too difficult there is a Word version of the book with no table of contents and no index here: http://do1.dr-chuck.com/pythonlearn/EN_us/pythonlearn.docx Ad the translation documentation states, you can publish the resulting translation any way you like - even selling a printed version with the proper attribution like the other translations. When you are done, I would like a copy of the resulting work to archive and point to on www.py4e.com - Word or PDF is fine. Your work will need proper acknowledgements as per Creative Commons - that is easy and I am happy to help. |
Thanks for responding Prof. Chuck (@csev). I think I will just use your Word doc =), a lot easier for me and will be handy to edit anywhere, anytime. Will share any progress here. Thanks again. Have a great week ahead! |
Python Para Sa Lahat v20240602 Hi Prof. Chuck @csev, Firstly, You may have noticed that I changed the title of issue #443 to "PY4E Book | Modern Filipino/English Translation". 😊Reason being is that just like English, the Filipino language has evolved over time and has an old-style flavor (sort of Shakespearean equivalent in English language). 😅 By focusing on modern Filipino/English translation of the PY4E book, we aim to make the material more relatable/comprehensible to contemporary Filipino speakers. In essence, our goal is to create a version of the PY4E book that resonates with today's Filipino-speaking community. I started with the 1st paragraph. Let me know your thoughts and whether I am still on the right track. 😅 Python Para Sa Lahat v20240602.docx Thanks and enjoy your week ahead. |
Python Para Sa Lahat v20240610 Good evening Prof. Chuck @csev, Hope you had a great weekend. Slowly but surely (I hope😅). I managed to progress a bit. I tried using ChatGPT as well to double-check my Filipino grammar. Interestingly, it uses deeper "Tagalog" than me. 😊 As mentioned, I am trying my best to make it more modern Filipino/English or colloquially called Taglish (Tagalog-English). Attached is the version as of this writing. |
I am glad to see some progress. Translation is a big task :) |
Thanks Prof Chuck, @csev. I must agree that it is a massive task!😅However, only few have this honor of translating the most popular introductory python course around. Thanks again for allowing me to do it. |
Python Para Sa Lahat v20240623 Python Para Sa Lahat v20240623.docx 2 pages down, 210 more to go! 😅I have to revisit the previous translations and ask ChatGPT to provide me a more modern version of them. Interestingly, it somehow came up with slightly better translation but I need to still tweak them. Gen AI is pretty cool stuff. I am glad I am doing the translation during LLM-era. It really helps. 😎 |
Python Para Sa Lahat v20240706 Python Para Sa Lahat v20240706.docx Managed to get some time. Another couple of pages completed. 🙂 |
Python Para Sa Lahat v20240715 Python Para Sa Lahat v20240715.docx Quick question Prof Chuck (@csev), On page 5, just want to clarify the italicized sentence below. I wonder if it is supposed to be 'most people use double quotes' in relation to the rest of the sentence. Thanks in advance for clarifying. print('Hello world!') |
Python Para Sa Lahat v20240722 Python Para Sa Lahat v20240722.docx Just a side good news, Prof Chuck (@csev). I just completed my DJ4E Specialization via Coursera. 😎 Another great course from you. Now I need to practice more Django on the side. 😅 Thanks again. |
Regarding your above comment - I removed "like this" from the sentence. It was wrong. |
Thanks Prof Chuck @csev. Sentence makes perfect sense now when removing "like this". 😎Cheers! |
Greetings Prof Chuck (@csev), I just want to let you know that I had a chat with one of Code.Sydney's partners in the Philippines. They are DEP (Data Engineering Pilipinas) https://dataengineering.ph/ which was founded by a good friend, Mike Ogbinar https://github.com/ogbinar. We are going to use PY4E to help beginners get a taste test on what coding is about and hopefully get them converted. 😊and in alignment to your personal aspiration to help people around the world get into coding, it will all be free of charge. We will also open up this book translation work to anyone of the participants so they can engage deeper as they translate the PY4E book. In a nutshell, this PY4E book translation is now a joint project between Code.Sydney and Digital Engineering Pilipinas. To ensure quality submissions, I will still own the submission to this ticket. Thank again. |
This all sounds like great developments - looking forward to hearing more. |
Hello Prof Chuck (@csev). Just a courtesy note to let you know that we are still in the process of discussing the best approach to expedite the translation. It is highly likely that the work will be distributed to potential number of contributors. I will keep you posted. Thanks and have a great weekend! 😊 |
Thanks for the update - happy for you to take this in any direction that you find productive. |
Greetings Prof Chuck (@csev), Apologies for the delay. Quite busy recently evangelizing PY4E with Code.Sydney's partner Digital Engineering Pilipinas in the Philippines. I think we already have the translated version for each chapter. However, I believe they still need reviewing as we want to keep the same modern feel across the translated book. Automated translations may not that be accurate. We will keep you posted. Cheers and hope you had a great weekend! 😊 |
Hello Prof. Chuck (@csev),
Hope all is well. Is there a quick guide to start translating PY4E in Filipino? I think I can spare some weekend time for this project. I tried installing mactext on my mac but can't seem to get my head around it. =)
I cloned the repo in my local machine and can see the mkd's under book3 folder. Is there a way to just do the actual translation without doing the documentation tech stuff? =) I am happy to just work on an editable PDF if that is available.
Looking forward to contribute. Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Engramar
