Visual Summary

Here, we will give a short overview of how to read the visual summary (see the image below). The basic idea is to inform the user about how the blinking behaves throughout the video. This might vary depending on your recording session and camera setup. Therefore, understanding this plot is valuable and could provide many insights.

  1. Blinking difference:

    • This is the central area of the plot where all matched blinks (black dots) are shown.
    • The x-axis is the video time, with a vertical line marking each minute.
    • The y-axis is the difference in ms as the recording time in FPS (see arrow 4)
    • If the right eye were before the left eye, a blink would be shown in the red area and vice versa.
    • As shown in the legend (arrow 5), we plot the rolling mean along five consecutive blinks as blue lines and the standard deviation around the graph.
    • on the right y-axis, we show the mean blink difference value and the computed deviations in $\sigma$ steps (see arrow 6).
  2. Histograms of Blinks per Minute

    • This plot is axis-aligned with the lower plot to show how many blinks in each minute happened simply.
    • Therefore, we can see if the blink frequency changes throughout the video
  3. Histogramm of Blink Difference

    • Aligned with the right y-axis of the main plot, we show where deviations a single blink lands.
    • This plot summarizes the blink difference deviations over the whole video.
    • In this given example, we see the shape of a normal distribution.
    • This might be different, for example, for patients with facial palsy.
