I checked and did not find my issue in the already reported ones
Describe the bug
In addition to being super flaky at times, I'm getting some sort of nonsense which has darktable hang indefinitely. Thumbnails don't resolve, either in 'lighttable' or in the filmstrip in 'darkroom.' Quitting the programme either causes a crash or I have to do a 'Force Quit.' Sometimes a 'Crash Report' is triggered, other times not.
Steps to reproduce
Start programme.
'lighttable' mode displays
The previous 'Collection' you finished with isn't automatically shown (which normally it would be)
Scroll down a bit
Discover these amazing thumbnails which bear no relationship to the images
Wait for 'working' declarations to resolve themselves.
Become much older.
Take a screenshot.
Open
Expected behavior
darktable sholdn't do any of this and normalluy doesn't
Logfile | Screenshot | Screencast
Notice that the empty fields for the thumbs are continuing to be built -- it claims -- but it never happens. I've had this phenomenon happen a few times.

Sometimes, it eventually resolves, so I dump the history file, and reapply a style, but have to lose all of my previous edits. Not the end of the world, but annoying.

Here's what it should be like, and is once everything calms down.
If I let it eventually finish, then change a thing or two -- especially in the UI -- then wait a short period, and then close the programme, and it actually closes itself (and not crash), then I can open darktable up and I'm in the right folder and my last selected image is highlighted and everything is as it is supposed to be. If the thing crashes upon exit, my last state isn't saved and I end up in whatever folder I was in when things closed properly.
At one point I did pull the XMP for the image where things started going haywire, in the hopes that I was therefore pulling some corrupted data, and then darktable would rebuild that from scratch. I have no idea if that helped or hindered.
All of the above is offered as further information which, itself, may help or hinder the process of finding the cause of this.

A lot of bugs have been fixed, please try again with that version.
Is there an existing issue for this?
