Produce a positions file when unloading / counting

This file would contain the ranges that were successfully unloaded.

This could then serve as the foundation for the long-awaited feature of resuming partially failed unloads.

FYI I'm leaning towards re-using the same file produced when loading. This requires fewer changes and is more robust since the file produced when loading is battle-tested.
