As a design system contributor,
I want to finalize and submit the Service List Item component documentation to VADS,
So that other teams can easily adopt, implement, and maintain the component within VA.gov.
Background
The Service List Item is a new component designed to present benefits, tools, or services in a clear, structured format. It is a core part of the Manage Benefits and Tools pattern and will support VFS teams in surfacing actionable benefit information efficiently.
To ensure adoption, we need to finalize and submit the component documentation in the VA Design System (VADS), ensuring it includes clear usage guidance, accessibility best practices, and implementation details. This component will be submitted as an experimental design pattern, meaning teams will validate its effectiveness through real-world implementation.
Discovery Goals
Ensure the documentation clearly defines the component's purpose, usage, and accessibility considerations.
Provide Storybook examples that demonstrate the component’s behavior in different contexts.
Align documentation with VADS design and engineering standards.
Prepare the component for stakeholder approval and submission to the VA Design System.
Questions to Answer
Have we documented all necessary implementation details for teams adopting this component?
Are there accessibility or usability gaps that need to be addressed before submission?
Does the documentation provide clear examples and edge cases?
Have we ensured alignment with other VADS components for a consistent user experience?
A functional web component implementation of the Service List Item.
Variations demonstrating different states (e.g., active, disabled, interactive).
Storybook Examples:
Interactive component examples with annotations on design rationale and interactions.
Submission for review and approval to VADS stakeholders.
Acceptance Criteria
Component documentation is finalized and formatted for VADS submission.
Example code and Storybook implementations are included.
Accessibility considerations are fully documented.
Documentation is submitted for stakeholder review and approval.
Constraints & Considerations
Ensure alignment with other list components in VADS for consistency.
Clearly define how the component can be customized for different use cases.
Provide guidance for both designers and engineers to support adoption.
