Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is a common viral illness that commonly affects infants and children younger than 5 years old, though older children and adults can also get (1).
HFMD is caused by viruses, most commonly by members of Picornaviridae family, enterovirus genus, specifically enterovirus 71 (EV71) and coxsackievirus A16 (CVA16). Other enteroviruses, including coxsackievirus B, coxsackievirus A6, coxsackievirus A10 and enterovirus D68, can also cause HFMD (2)
