It is an independant device, which imply it have 3 grounds.
The earth is connected to the chassis and used for the shield. Don't connect it at the other side or it will result into a earth loop.
The signal ground is independant, that in order to allow to try different heater circuits into the theremin (ground to the chassis, + 6.3V to the chassis, or middle point to the chassis or polarised).
