Error 401 when sending an http request

Hi there,

I wanted to congratulate you on this project and ask for some help. I have a smart home with an Autelis Somfy RTS box, which is connected to and controls my shades in the house. The syntax I use (using a ISY 994i) for this is

GET

http://IPADDRESS/set.cgi?&addr=1&gp=14&val=up

I get the following when I try to execute

Error sending request (HTTP status code 401): null
[2/22/2021, 3:47:28 PM] [Office] 1 / 5 attempts failed after 55 ms
[2/22/2021, 3:47:28 PM] [Office] Body: 401 Unauthorized: Password required

I have tried cutting and pasting into my safari browser (mac) and it works.......

however when I try CURL
curl http://IPADDRESS/set.cgi?addr=1&gp=14&val=up
[1] 26526
[2] 26527
[2]+ Done gp=14
$ 401 Unauthorized: Password required

Not sure why this is - when I enable verbose logging, it wont display the actual HTTP command that is being sent so its hard to debug... Any suggestions?

I don’t know the system but that sounds like it used HTTP Basic Authentication or some other kind of authentication which you haven’t configured in the config of this plugin. Has your browser ever asked you for a password (for the webpage you mentioned)?

Good point - it will ask for username and password on safari but not on the home automation box. here is the snippet I pulled from the website (which is no longer active). Is there a format I can add to the above for username/password?

TCP
TCP port 6000 accepts data that is passed directly to the Universal II Interface. Use serial commands that follow the Universal II Interface format.
For example, send "0101U\r\n" to raise the group 1 shades. The equivalent hex string would be "30313031550D0A".

HTTP
You can also use HTTP GET commands in the following format:
http://shadecontrol/set.cgi?addr=1&gp=1&val=up
addr - the address of the Universal II Interface (will always be 1 unless you have more than one interface connected)
gp - the group/channel you want to control (1-16)
val - the command you want to execute (up, st, dn, ps1, ps2, ps3)

NOTE: HTTP GET commands require a valid basic authorization header to be sent.

I have tried both the username and password separated by a colon or the base64 hash and entered into the authorization field - and it gives the same error - what is strange is it always says "null" on the error which would lead me to suspect that the username password authorization is not being passed?

Hi @muddycharles68 your issue is with basic auth, although you're not invoking curl correctly either.

You need to put the entire HTTP portion in quotes.
curl "http://IPADDRESS/set.cgi?addr=1&gp=14&val=up"

(Note, you may need to specify this as a POST, not GET command).

That being said, you will still need to pass the auth header correctly to curl to avoid the 401 error.

Let's assume your username is admin and pw is 123456. Please confirm this works then on your end.
curl -H "Authorization: Basic $(echo -n 'admin:123456' | base64)" "http://IPADDRESS/set.cgi?addr=1&gp=14&val=up"

If it doesn't work, troubleshoot that first. Once it's working, you can copy the config properly into the blinds config.

You can run the following to determine the other part of the Authorization header.
echo Basic $(echo -n 'admin:123456' | base64)

If you still have trouble, please post your blinds config.

ok - will do. FYI when I put the down command in brackets in your program I get an error that is different

Ignore the double quotes for up - that was me trying to see if it would change the error message. It would appear the http string is being sent correctly, but without authentication.

You have a number of issues here:

1. Missing Basic in your Authorization
2. Invalid JSON; too many quotes in your up_url

Try this:
