Description

  • An initial discovery of edx-platform has been done to find the usages and endpoints of Elastic Search. Coordinate with TnL team to get the edx-platform migrated from ElasticSearch to OpenSearch.
  • An Architecture Decision Record (ADR) document will be created by the owning team and shared with the community on this issue.

Further Context

Pasting @jristau1984's discovery findings here to make it visible to the community as well (they don't have access to 2u-internal/wiki)

After research on my part, which was documented on this confluence doc, here is the conclusion I am arrived at:

  • The elastic search instance serving LMS has very limit use. The only output it supports is the Teams search. Therefore, the ES instance supporting LMS is low priority and we can delay the replacement typing
  • The ES Instance supporting discussion forum has significant usage. Because of this usage, I believe the Infinity team should develop an open search replacement plan and execute on that
