My Hoa
(pronounced Me-Har)
(she / her)

How I get my best work done:

  • When there is a detailed outline (preferably visual) of the whole process/project
  • When I feel comfortable and feel everyone else is also comfortable in the space

The role I usually take in a team:

  • My life pre-FAC my role in my job was both leading/organising/checking details
  • But I would class myself as an all-rounder, and I don't mind which role I take!
  • New experiences please!

My communication style:

  • Diagrams, pictures, moving images
  • Analogies
  • I believe I understand concepts/methods better when I can see it with my own eyes (in comparison to just describing it to me)

What I value:

  • Patience
  • Kindness
  • Ideas
  • Any jokes! 🧀 the better
  • Keeping each other motivated!
  • Talking through the code when you are writing it

What people misunderstand about me:

  • I’m a ‘worst case scenario’ thinker so may come across as negative I.e I don’t let people know if I think they have done something good (trying to change so please do tell me!)

  • When a thought comes to my mind I usually express it even though it may not be relevant to the topic...this isn’t meant to dismiss the topic but more so I don’t forget (again let me know if I do this!)

  • Aside from jokes I find I use laughing as a tool for many things. Mainly to relieve stress or so I can try distance myself from a situation momentarily. But can been seen as I am laughing at a particular thing when I'm just laughing at something in my head (again, please let me know if I have offended you).

How I like to get my feedback:

  • Direct message to let me know and an opportunity for me to let it sink in before I can get back to you or discuss? Any suggestions helpful too! 👍
  • In cake form would be preferable 🍰 🍥 🥮
  • Actually any type of food 🍽️

Technical strengths & weaknesses:

Strengths

  • Turning my computer on and off again 💪 💻
  • Debugging (I can probably find out in the most inefficient way what went wrong... but not how to solve haha!)

Weaknesses - continually improving.

  • Being decisive
  • General coding knowledge
  • Circle CI
  • With code, I tend to test potential solutions out rather than step back and think about it first...

Interests (programming or otherwise!):

  • Gaming (Though I do less and less nowadays!) 🎮

  • Crime dramas/podcasts/anything crime related. I’ve even been to one of those live CSI solving crime things 🕵️‍♀️ (don’t judge!). But have to offset this with light hearted stuff 🥰 so I don’t get nightmares/get in doom and gloom mood 😢

  • Anything cute because why not?

  • Food 🥘 - this is probably my first priority in life. Whilst I’m eating I think about what I’m going to eat 🤤 (and am excited about it) during the next meal

  • Travelling when it was easier to do...

  • DIY/crafts 🖍️ 🔧

Straight genius- will spot things other people miss, really strong reasoning walking through/explaining code so debugging is straightforward and always brings such a good atmosphere to the day! So enthusiastic even with early starts or late nights, always willing to jump in and get her hands dirty on things that could be a real drag otherwise and an all around gem.

So fun to work with! She is very knowledgeable (of code, cookies and puns). Thank you for explaining all the code to me that I didn't understand!!

Can go on forever about how knowledgable she is but I see others have said the same so there we go! Loved working with her for the span of 2 weeks on an SPA. My Hoa is very friendly and easy to work alongside in a team. Great at explaining code and guiding the team in a productive direction! ✨

My Hoa is the person you call when things are going to hell, she always seems to have a great solution up her sleeve. My Hoa always knows what to ask and I believe a perfectly crafted question will always lead to a good solution. I learnt a lot working with My Hoa and I hope to work with her more in the future.

My Hoa sees the big picture before she starts working on her projects. She always knows the right direction to go and her knowledge leads her team to the best result. It was a pleasure to work with her and I am looking forward to working with her again for the student project.
