Feather stays connected to clearnet nodes even if I choose Tor or I2P in the settings.

Take time to run your own node!

A few more details will certailnly help.
What is your OS? What are you feather's settings, how do you check the misbehaviour?

We talked this in Matrix room.

Changing connection mode is so buggy; sometimes doesn't switch while its syncing, sometimes its syncing with old connection mode while Feather says its "connecting" to a node with new connection mode.

great! Do you mind sharing the room?

It's a complication regarding how the Matrix protocol works; Matrix was designed to be decentralized communication system, but the majority of users paradoxically treat it as centralized platform by choosing the default public server for creating their accounts (which causes a strain).
It ends up creating an issue where you both potentially hinder your own connection speed due to the sheer volume of users on the server alongside you, and where you give ultimate authority of whether your account can be revoked by the conditions and moderators imposed by the server you chose to sign up with.

Long story short: the advice is to not use the default

That aside, my issue is somewhat related to the original but distinctly different:
my client doesn't connect to Tor at all (via Flatpak). It just disconnects and remains that way.
Attempting to only use the "Exchange" tab's search function to trigger a reconnect to Tor doesn't fix it either; it just says that the "connection to the proxy refused".

EDIT:
I realize why now... The Father flatpak doesn't even come with Tor... for some reason

@ThisNekoGuy it was about matrix.org were having problems with monero.social instance, now it works fine but still preferred to not use default one.
