Enabling Youtube captions gives an error popup that sometimes refuses to go away

What happened?

When I enable captions(subtitles) they dont work and instead give me an error message

and neither the cross button nor the cancel button does anything, only spam clicking Yes reloads the video and disables captions again.

This happens both logged in and out, from videos clicked from homepage and from searching them, on auto generated as well as creator provided subtitles on Youtube...

yeah. While I haven't tested the latest grayjay android version, about 2 months ago ish i was using it and the captions were working fine. they were small and stuck to the bottom of the screen instead of floating a bit above the bottom but they did work...

For me they seem to work. Is this 100% reproducible to you?

Also yes, I tried reinstalling Grayjay just to check this and it still aint working... Youtube login also doesnt work but that may be because I haven't created a channel I just have a youtube account

Don't think you have to create a channel for this. Could you follow this issue regarding this and see if that comment helps?

hey thats exactly whats happening to me. However, in the attached thread it says that you need to click on your profile but the popup where I just entered my email and password simply disappears before I can do anything.

Re clicking on login opens it for a brief second and I HAVE seen the select account/profile pic for a millisecond before - you guessed it- it got closed again
a similar bug was happening to me on grayjay mobile too now that I think about it, but on spam clicking login on grayjay mobile it calmed down and let me select the my profile picture
