Error updating user preference 'drawer-open-index' using ajax

Describe the bug
On any course page, immediately get an error popup "Error updating user preference 'drawer-open-index' using ajax. Clicking this link will repeat the Ajax call that failed so you can see the error: " Closing and opening the left side shelf causes this error to trigger.

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Go to any course page
2. Click on left side shelf
