Parsing binary formats can be difficult, and with the current filter setup, it adds a lot of boilerplate. I think for binary parsing, instead of having a filter for every kind of parsing operation, it would be better to use an existing declarative format and integrate it with quilkin, then it would make it more easy to parse and operate on data.
