This update restores full home directory access to the Gramps flatpak, for easier access to user databases from both the 5.1 series flatpaks as well as system installations of Gramps. Make sure your database is SQLite instead of BSDDB3. The Gramps 5.2 flatpak is dropping BSDDB3 support due to age of the license-free version of BSDDB3 as well as the extra size of the download when BSDDB3 is included in the Gramps flatpak.

Pre-release

Flatpak for Gramps 5.2.0-rc1. This is testing only. Before installing and using this release:

  1. Make sure your database is SQLite instead of BSDDB3. The Gramps 5.2 flatpak is dropping BSDDB3 support due to age of the license-free version of BSDDB3 as well as the extra size of the download when BSDDB3 is included in the Gramps flatpak.
  2. Back up your database with pictures included. Gramps 5.2 flatpak is switching to xdg-access of Documents, Downloads, and Pictures instead of full home directory access. Restoring a gpkg with media included will make it easier to link your media files with the 5.2 flatpak.
  3. I have not tested using both the Gramps 5.1.6 flatpak and the 5.2 flatpak on the same linux installation. I always test in a virtual machine, and remove the old flatpak before installing the new flatpak when I check for bugs. If you already use the 5.1.6 flatpak, I recommend testing in a VM or different installation. If you use a distro provided Gramps or built from source, I do not remember any conflicts other than the normal warning to not open your normal database with a testing version of Gramps.
  4. WARNING--localizations outside English might not work on this file, unlike the version at flathub. Until I find the solution, please use the flathub version if you need to use another locale.

CHANGES FOR THIS FLATPAK

  • update Gramps source to 5.2.0 and update sha256
  • remove flatpak's home directory access in favor of xdg access for Docs, Downloads, and Pictures
  • remove old BSDDB3
  • remove atomic.patch since it was for BSDDB3
  • update Gnome runtime to 45 and python to 3.11
  • update exiv2 to 0.28.1
  • update gexiv2 to 0.14.2
  • update ghostscript to 10.02.1
  • update graphviz to 10.0.1
  • remove pygraphviz from manifest, since pygraphviz 1.12 requires an install incompatible with flatpaks. The Graph View addon seems to work fine without pygraphviz, so pygraphviz will be left out.

INSTALLATION

  1. install flatpak from your distribution
  2. follow the instructions for your distribution at https://flathub.org/setup for adding the flathub repository. The runtimes required for Gramps get downloaded from this repository.
  3. open a terminal in the directory you placed the gramps.flatpak into, and as a user (NOT root or sudo) run the command below
    flatpak install gramps.flatpak

UNINSTALL

  1. flatpak uninstall org.gramps_project.Gramps
  2. flatpak uninstall --unused
The second command will remove any runtimes not being used by other flatpaks.
