Thank you for reaching out to us regarding the recent Firmware Authorization changes.

As you mentioned, the introduction of the Authorization Control System has indeed sparked significant discussion. However, as highlighted in our blog post, the primary purpose of releasing this firmware is to enhance product security and safeguard user information.

In response, we have decided to introduce an optional LAN mode feature to grant advanced users greater control and flexibility.

Home Assistant:

Cloud Mode / Standard LAN Mode (Default):
After updating to the latest firmware with enhanced security controls, complete printer control via Home Assistant will be restricted. While Home Assistant will retain the ability to access some printer information, certain functionalities will be limited.
Developer Mode (Optional):
This option is available for advanced users seeking full control over their network security. By enabling Developer Mode and keeping the MQTT channel, live stream, and FTP open. Ensure that the network ports you need to use are open correctly and that Home Assistant functionalities could operate normally. The specific details and functionalities will depend on the configuration settings of the Home Assistant integration.
It is important to note that users will assume full responsibility for safeguarding their local network environment upon manually enabling this feature. Moreover, Bambu Lab will not be able to provide customer support for this mode due to the unofficial communication protocols it employs.

At present, the Firmware Authorization update is available in Open Beta exclusively for the X1 series.
Participation in the beta program is entirely optional, allowing you to explore and provide feedback on the new features. Alternatively, you can continue using your current firmware.

How about block the internet for your Bambu printer. I read also that they can PUSH a firmware to your printer.
Blocking the access will block this option. Then you can only print via a SD Card I guess...

The MQTT option to push files via Bambu Studio won't work als then....

most of the hysteria has now been debunked. they are simply putting end to end authentication in place for cloud services, so non authenticated sources can read sensor data but not send instructions. which is what the original press release said.

Anyone who doesn't want to use the end to end can switch their printer to local mode, but this means losing cloud services.

i wonder how much of the speculation was genuine and how much was simply the usual anti bambu brigade sending out misinformation. there are a whole lot of people who have been against bambu from the start because they produced a solid closed source machine that was attracting people to 3d printing who weren't interested in tinkering, but and just wanted to print their own mandalorian helmets and anime statues without even knowing about things like Extrusion rates and nozzle types. it threatened to change the demographic from prosumer to consumer.
