<att name="description">The code used for each station. We randomly select all of the stations (tow locations) before each survey. However, due to gear and bottom some locations are not able to be completed. Due to this the captain will move to a nearby site to complete the tow. To make note of this while out on the survey we use a station_type code. R is for random, which means this was the tow randomly selected before the survey. RA is random alternative, which means this tow was a make up for a random tow that couldn't be done. A RA is a tow the captain randomly found where no gear or bad bottom was present and hasn't been towed before. NA is a non-random alternate tow to make up for a randomly selected tow that couldn't be completed. A NA is a tow that has previously been towed before which is why it is non-random. Later on they changed the coding of non-random from NA to NR. F is a fixed site. When the survey first started, they had a series of fixed sites they would survey at each year. These fixed sites were dropped in Fall 2005. D is for duplicate. This is when they have completed a tow twice so they duplicated the tow at that site.</att>
