Best option for internationalization of the site using GitHub Pages

Eleventy is fine as far as I can tell. It definitely works. I just wonder if there's something cleaner to move from markdown to a static site, including the translated files. Wouldn't some random gh-pages theme be better? We wouldn't have to worry about the broken metadata I'm struggling with. I can see a workflow that would work using Elenty and Azure, I'm just wondering if there's another technology that would be easier. The content is important to me and making sure that all the languages we support are up-to-date without an army of volunteers is a vital to making sure this project can move forward with up-to-date content everyone can use. So if I have to punt on some design flexibility to more easily have a site that's automatically available in a bunch of languages then I'm ready to punt*.

(*Punt, in the US English sense of giving up. Not punt in the British English sense of making a bet. There's some nuance for machine translations to chew on 😆 )
