Output Matt colour value via MQTT for 'ambient' frame

I'm interested to build an RGB led strip built into the back of a picture frame to produce an ambient surround colour on the wall that matches the matt colour. Any ideas how to do this? Or could the feature be added in future?

Hi, interesting idea. My thoughts would be to have a separate process running the lights. However the Matt colour only exists within the ViewerDisplay object instance so you would have to expose that. A cheap and cheerful way would be to simply write to /dev/shm/rgb_value.txt from where your LED could read it.

I like the idea of outputting the matt color to mqtt also, maybe with the info sent about the image. I've been looking at the picframe-overlay project, but there needs to be a way to adjust the overlay text color when it matches the matt to something complementary. I was thinking if this was available via MQTT the overlay process could pick this up and adjust the color.
