Image not filling the screen

I have just started using this software but I am having a hard time showing images that fill the screen up. The resolution is 1080p, I am using raspberry pi 3 A+. I disabled text by making show_text="", I set fit to False and True, I hardcoded the resolution in the config file, but nothing changed. The picture is showing with its own little border, and then gaps exist on all sides. All I want for it to be stretched vertically or horizontally so that at least two sides do not have gaps. I would rather not edit the images themselves as I have thousands.

Hi @zaldwaik in configuration.yaml I think you want fit: False and mat_images: False That should scale your images up so they a minimum the same width or height as the screen. That means that if they are a different aspect ratio, some of the image will be cropped. That was the intention at any rate, I will do a couple of tests and check that it works correctly.

Yep, that seems to work OK on my screen. How big is the border? If you get the border with everything (i.e. with matting you get a black border outside the matt) then it might be fixable with sudo raspi-config Display Options Underscan but I've never had to use that.

Thanks for the quick reply. That mostly solved the problem but it fills up the screen with the picture and crops any excess. This distorts some pictures if the subject is in the cropped area. I am wondering if there is a way to just utilize the whole screen without any cropping leaving gaps on one side or the other. I may stay with the current version but it would be great if I can test that. Thanks

Hi @zaldwaik Good, glad it worked. What you want sounds to be the result you get with fit: True. The gaps are filled with a reflected, blurred, scaled up and semi transparent version of the image. You can alter all those properties in the config file.

If you set mat_images to something like 0.1 then most pictures will be cropped to fit (if you leave fit: False) but ones that would lose too much (ie portrait ones) will be rendered in a mount. You can set mat_type: float to avoid losing too much screen with bevels etc.

I found the solution. I had to lower the outer_mat_border parameter to something small land that took care of it.
