Admit criterion same vs different CC

There is some confusion (I may have fallen for that too) concerning the admit criteria same CC and different CC. qdmr only provides the options always, channel free and color code. The latter means different color code.

The purpose of the admit condition is, to prevent you from transmitting on a channel, when it is in use. The appropriate settings depends on the mode and channel type:

• FM simplex: use channel free. If occupied, you are not allowed to transmit.
• FM repeater: Use either always or tone:
  • If always is selected, you are obviously allowed to always transmit and interfere with someone else.
  • If tone is selected, you are prevented from transmitting on the channel, if the CTCSS/DCS tones match. If they don't match, you can still transmit. This way, you may transmit if you receive a signal from a different repeater with another sub tone transmitting on the same frequency (e.g., in crowded areas or under good conditions).
  • Do not use channel free here you need to wait until the repeater stops transmitting before you can transmit again.
• DMR simplex: Again, channel free
• DMR repeater: Either channel free or color code (of cause always also works)
  • channel free works here, because DMR repeater stop transmitting once a transmission from the network ends.
  • color code Similar to tone above, allows to transmit if the channel is free or the color code does not match. That is, if you receive a transmission from a distant DMR repeater with another color code on the same frequency.
