I've been looking into https://github.com/migueldeicaza/SwiftTerm - it's MIT-licensed and might be a good way to "fix" some of the a-Shell terminal niggles (caret+cursor, things like #817, etc.).

Would this be of interest, or would it break the hterm-based stuff completely?

I have a branch where I test it (https://github.com/holzschu/a-shell/tree/SwiftTerm). The last time I tested, I encountered major issues:

• it does not render compose emojis: Working with compose emojis such as "🖐🏾" or "👩‍👩‍👦‍👦" migueldeicaza/SwiftTerm#341
• setCursorColor() does not change the color of the cursor setCursorColor() does not change the color of the cursor migueldeicaza/SwiftTerm#342

At that point I stopped testing. I'll revisit it later.
