You're probably already aware of this, but just in case...

There's a working VS Code extension that has the capability to debug HLF chaincode.

It's FOSS, licensed under Apache-2.0.
The chaincode runs in a local Fabric network, with a fixed architecture, managed by the extension itself using Docker.
Currently its practical application is very limited, but it might be interesting to take a look at it for code/design inspiration.

There might be an opportunity to unify efforts, too, if your interests align.
