I can recreate this issue 100% of the time, but I dont find anything in journalctl logs relating to the issue.

If extension dash2dock animated is enabled, and I turn off the wifi, after about 10 seconds the entire system hangs and becomes unresponsive for a long time - 1-2 minutes.

If I simply disable this extension, this issue does not occur and I can easily disable and reenable wifi. This indicates that dash2dock has some issue when wifi is disrupted. I noticed this issue when I rebooted my firewall, and my gnome session hung, as internet connectivity was disrupted during this time, although wifi was still connected to an AP nearby. Somehow dash2dock requires internet connectivity at all times.

Any insight how to troubleshoot this issue appreciated.
