SIPN South 2024 Call for Contribution

The call for contributions to SIPN South 2023-2024 can be found here.

The deadline for submission is the Monday, 9th December 2024.

Please validate as you go along each step!

• Run IceNet hindcasting to generate predictions to emulate 2023 and 2022 SIPN South call for contributions.
  • Use these hindcasts and demo notebook in this repo to compare results against other submissions in the same year (@ampersandmcd).
  • The daily IceNet pipeline from @JimCircadian should be a good starting point.
• Validate and convert notebook code to library for ease of use (@bnubald).
• Generate submission results using IceNet UNet baseline for 1st Dec 2024 to 28th Feb 2025 (See below for each analysis that needs to be completed) (@bnubald).
• Generate same results, but using DMD method instead of IceNet's UNet baseline (@pyatsysh).

Generate results:

There are up to five different submission items in decreasing priority. I have omitted [4] and [5] which correspond to sea ice thickness and monthly forecasting since these are not supported in IceNet currently.

SIPN South requirements:

• 1. Antarctic daily mean sea-ice area from 1st Dec 2024 to 28th Feb 2025 inclusive (90 days).
• 2. Antarctic Feb daily mean sea-ice area per 10° longitude bin, from 1st Dec 2024 to 28th Feb 2025 inclusive (90 days)
• 3. Antarctic Feb daily mean sea-ice concentration from 1st Dec 2024 to 28th Feb 2025 inclusive (90 days)
