Timestamp on the Google Sheet ?

Is there any way, that we could script an additional column on the Google Sheet itself, [which could use something that enables real-time collaboration, for eg.], and produce timestamps for new entries, as they are getting added?

For one thing, this in itself might help track the time of entry; for another, it is a good backup in place of real-time email notifications and such.
