I also had this problem too, but in different manner. I compiled kernel myself on my debian system. The kernel boot just fine but after I signed the kernel and boot it through secure boot (boot the signed one). It just freeze and I have no idea how to debug this PC since I have no access to serial/UART (I opened up the machine lately but forgot to do some reverse engineering to locate the UART testpad).
Upon booting and logging in, there is a static sound like white-noise until one touches the hardware volume buttons either up or down.
