Describe the bug

Recently, subtitles on Chromecast have a opaque black box around them. This started happening around the time I updated to Jellyfin 10.9, there was no such box around the subtitles before that (or at least not a completely opaque one, I can't quite remember). There is no box around the subtitles when playing on web or Android, only when I use the same Android client to start casting.

System (please complete the following information):

  • OS: Docker
  • Browser: Android Client
  • Jellyfin version: 10.9.2
  • Cast Receiver version: Stable
  • Cast client: 2nd gen

Tangentially related but, do you also notice the following issues appearing since your issue first started?

  • Movie synopsis text being unusually small on Chromecast movie details page
  • Chromecast playback controls in Android notification area changed, used to have movie info and seekbar, now only back, pause, forward, stop and a volume button
  • Slow UI on Chromecast app
  • Movies occasionally freezing

Movie synopsis text being unusually small on Chromecast movie details page

Not sure what this refers to. I don't see any synopsis on the Chromecast.

Chromecast playback controls in Android notification area changed, used to have movie info and seekbar, now only back, pause, forward, stop and a volume button

I still see a seekbar, title, and image. Though presumably that's up to the Android app and not the Chromecast app.

Slow UI on Chromecast app

The Chromecast app doesn't have a UI as far as I know, it's just remote controlled.

Movies occasionally freezing

Not in any new way, I think.

Hmm, do you use a smart TV or something? I have an old dumb TV from 2011, so I just plug the Chromecast into the HDMI port and cast to it, causing the TV to display a Jellyfin UI.

It is a smart TV from 2011, but I am using a Chromecast plugged into HDMI. The only thing I see when I first launch Jellyfin on it is the Jellyfin logo and "Ready to cast" in the corner. Then I guess there is the progress bar and title overlay shown briefly when you start playing something, but that's not something you can interact with, and I see no synopsis.
