This file describes how to use the ESXi Performance Collection Scripts. They are primarily designed to be used by EMC engineers and customers to collect performance data from ESXi/vSphere environments for troubleshooting and sizing purposes. No warrenties implied. Requirements: vSphere 4+ vCenter 4+ vMA 5.x General Instructions: 1) SSH into your vMA as the regular vi-admin user. 2) Retrieve the script files by running the following command (simply cut & paste, all one line): wget -O - https://github.com/downloads/mcowger/esxi-perf-collect/collectperf.V1.tgz | tar -xvzf - 3) Run 'perl gethosts.pl --server <ip / hostname of vcenter>'' to create a file called 'esxhosts' in the current directory. You will be prompted for credentials - use the same ones as when logging into the vSphere Client. It will be populated with the hostnames of your environment. If required, you can edit this file manually using 'vi'. 4) Run ‘python collectperf.py’. You will be prompted for credentials - use the same ones as when logging into the vSphere Client. 5) Enter the number of collection iterations you want to run. A handy chart is provided. We recommend at least 1 days worth, if possible (1440 iterations). 6) The script will output some status and summary information, including an estimate of when collection will be complete: 7) When the collection is complete. Run ‘python submit.py’ from the same directory. The script will collect the performance files, compress them and (attempt) to upload them to EMC’s secure FTP site, where they can be collected by your EMC account team. Please send your account team the URL that is provided in the output, as well as the MD5 SUM for verififcation. 8) In case the FTP upload fails (due to firewall rules, etc), you can use alternate means to transfer the file to EMC.
