Kanata 1.8.0 on MacOS

I have updated Kanata on MacOS today using Homebrew. The breaking change in v1.8.0 is that we now use v5.0.0 of the Karabiner driver. This version of the driver seems to no longer run as a service when installed and requires as to run it instead. What I am now doing to run kanata on MacOS involves:

• Adding the terminal emulator I use to the Input Monitoring section in the System Settings to grant permissions.
• Opening a terminal window and running the Karabiner Driver
• Opening another terminal window (or pane) and running Kanata.

I have tried creating some scripts using Automator and also looked into how launchd works, but I didn't get anywhere. I never managed to get kanata-tray running properly either. Does anyone know a better approach?
