Serving the kiwiirc config.json file will allow some config options such as kiwiServer to be automatically generated and the awkward symlink for the file to be removed in built packages.

KiwiBNC does something smilar which works well: https://github.com/kiwiirc/kiwibnc/blob/master/config.ini#L32
