Upcoming 0.2 release (week of 05/20)

We're excited to announce the upcoming release of LangChain 0.2, scheduled for the week of 05/20. This version will remove the dependency of langchain on langchain-community, a change planned since the 0.1 release to improve our package architecture.

Note: PRs to either langchain or langchain-community merged into the master branch will not be released until the 0.2 release.

Key points:

• Few breaking changes.
• Extended timeline for some deprecations to allow more time for code updates.

We welcome feedback on the langchain and langchain-community v0.2 release candidates, as well as on the migration script.

Important notes:

• The master branch now tracks 0.2 progress.
• The v0.1 branch continues to track 0.1 progress.
• We may have 1-2 more releases from v0.1 before the full 0.2 release. For immediate changes and inclusion in 0.2, make PRs against both branches (master and v0.1).

Documentation:

• Current docs are built from the v0.1 branch.
• Preview 0.2 docs (from master) are available here and will soon be linked from a banner on python.langchain.com.

Hi @eyurtsev, new release looks awesome!

I saw there are several limitations with the migration script, based on the limits of what LibCST can do. Would you be open to a pull request that uses GritQL instead and fixes those limitations?

Hey @morgante ! I believe we considered Grit and ended up going with LibCST because of the external install / posting of code mod process.

I'd welcome contributions to the CLI (source code) that handle additional deprecation cases though!

I'm not sure I follow - what's the "posting of code mod process?" LibCST is also an external module.

I don't want two separate code modding solutions since it's more stuff for us to maintain. I chose LibCST because I'm familiar with it and was able to re-use existing logic from bump-pydantic. If you're free for 30 mins this week and are willing to demo usage of grit by users + by devs, shoot me an email at eugene @ langchain.dev.
